  1. noting or pertaining to a substance, as a ferrite, in which the magnetic moments of some neighboring atoms point in opposite directions, with a net magnetization still resulting because of differences in magnitudes of the opposite moments. Cf. antiferromagnetic, diamagnetic, ferromagnetic.
