  1. a compact cluster of capillaries.
  2. Also calleda tuft of convoluted capillaries in the nephron of a kidney, functioning to remove certain substances from the blood before it flows into the convoluted tubule. Cf. Bowman's capsule, Malpighian corpuscle.
