Krehbiel, Henry Edward

Krehbiel, Henry Edward krāˈbēl [key], 1854–1923, American music critic, b. Ann Arbor, Mich. In 1880 he became music critic of the New York Tribune. He championed the music of Wagner, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky when they were little known in the United States. Krehbiel wrote many books on music and edited the English version of A. W. Thayer's biography of Beethoven, which appeared in 1921.
