Atholston, Hugh Graham, 1st Baron

Atholston, Hugh Graham, 1st Baron ăthˈəlstən [key], 1848–1938, Canadian newspaper publisher. He was the founder and proprietor (1869) of the evening paper the Montreal Star, which became Canada's best-selling English newspaper. He later established an influential weekly, the Family Herald and Weekly Star, with nationwide rural circulation, and the urban Montreal Standard, and gained control of the liberal Montreal Herald in the 1910s. He was knighted in 1907 and made a baron in 1917.
