d'Aubission, Roberto

d'Aubission, Roberto rōbĕrˈtō dōˌbēsyōnˈ [key], 1944–92, El Savadorean public figure. A former El Salvadorean army major, he founded (1980) the right-wing National Republican Alliance (ARENA) believed to be the political wing of the death squads that brought terror to El Salvador during the 1980s. In 1981, he was elected president of the constituent assembly, but was blocked by the military and the United States from being appointed interim president of the nation. He ran unsuccessfully for president in 1984.
