Gregorovius, Ferdinand

Gregorovius, Ferdinand grĕgərō´vēəs, Ger. fĕr´dēnänt grā˝gōrō´vēo͝os [key], 1821–91, German historian. He spent many years in Rome, where he produced his authoritative History of the City of Rome in the Middle Ages (8 vol., 1859–72 tr. 1894–1900). Other works include his Life of the Emperor Hadrian (1851, tr. 1898).
