Bosboom-Toussaint, Anna Louisa Geertruida

Bosboom-Toussaint, Anna Louisa Geertruida äˈnä lo͞oēˈzä hārtroiˈdä bôsˈbōm-to͝osăNˈ [key], 1812–86, Dutch novelist. She published her first novel, Almagro, in 1837. Her perceptive historical fiction was written in ornate and purposely archaic style. One of her chief works treated modern life; this epistolary novel, Majoor Frans (1874, tr. Major Frank, 1886), exhibits a real appreciation of the problems of women.
