Oudinot, Nicolas Charles

Oudinot, Nicolas Charles nēkôläˈ shärl o͞odēnōˈ [key], 1767–1847, French soldier. A veteran of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, he was created marshal of France (1809) and duke of Reggio (1810) by Napoleon I. He served as governor of Holland from 1810 to 1812. After Napoleon's first abdication Oudinot gave his support to Louis XVIII. He commanded the national guard during the Hundred Days, and for his support of Louis XVIII he was made a peer of France. Later, he participated in the Spanish expedition of 1823.
