Wieser, Friedrich von

Wieser, Friedrich von frēˈdrĭkh fən vēˈzər [key], 1851–1926, Austrian economist and sociologist. He is noted for his formulas applying the principle of marginal utility to cost phenomena. He taught at Prague (1884–1903) and Vienna (1903–17, 1919–22) and served (1917–18) as Austrian secretary of commerce. His works include Der natürliche Wert (1889, tr. Natural Value, 1893) and Theorie der gesellschaftlichen Wirtschaft (1914, tr. Social Economics, 1927).
