Nanaimo

Nanaimo nənīˈmō [key], city (1991 pop. 60.129), SW British Columbia, Canada, on Vancouver Island. It is a port, the base of a commercial fishing fleet, and the trade center for a farm and lumbering region. It is the site of a federal fisheries and oceanographic research station. A tourist center, Nanaimo hosts an annual Bathtub Race across the straits to Vancouver.
