Mauna Loa mou´nə lō´ə [key], volcano, 13,680 ft (4,170 m) high, in the S central part of the island of Hawaii, in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park , the largest active volcano in the world. Its several craters and cones include Mokuaweoweo, one of the world's largest active calderas. Mauna Loa has erupted many times since the early 1800s, with lava flows reaching the sea at times. Kilauea , located on Mauna Loa's SE slope, is a separate volcano.
