Pírgos

Pírgos or Pyrgos both: pērˈgôs [key], town (1991 pop. 28,660), capital of Ilía prefecture, SW Greece, in the Peloponnesus, near the mouth of the Alfiós River. It is a commercial center with various light industries. Pírgos was sacked by the Ottoman Turks in the Greek War of Independence.
