Segura

Segura sāgo͞oˈrä [key], river, c.200 mi (320 km) long, rising on the northeastern slopes of the Sierra de Segura, SE Spain, and flowing generally E into the Mediterranean Sea. It is used for hydroelectric-power generation, and it irrigates more than 300,000 acres in Murcia and Orihuela; water from reservoirs behind dams near the headwaters of the Tagus is transferred to the Segura via pipeline, canal, aqueduct, reservoir, and tunnel when the supply is sufficient.
