Bangor băngˈgôr [key], town (2020 pop. 18,560), Gwynedd, NW Wales, at the northern end of Menai Strait. Slate is shipped from adjacent Port Penrhyn. The cathedral, on the site of a 6th-century church, dates from the 11th cent. and has been rebuilt several times. Bangor Univ. is there.
