Magnusson, Finnur

Magnusson, Finnur mägˈno͞osôn [key], 1781–1847, Icelandic archaeologist and scholar. Educated at the Univ. of Copenhagen, he was appointed (1815) professor of Northern literature and mythology there. He compiled, edited, and translated the Elder Edda and published a lexicon of Norse mythology (1828) and works on the origin of the Edda sayings.
