Luke is a fourth-grade student at Rockport Elementary School in Massachusetts. He wrote this essay about his worst fear.

I am most afraid of earwigs. It all started on the car ride back from fishing. Our fishing knife cut part of my pants by my knee, and anything could get in them. I was so exhausted from the day, that I fell asleep but was quickly awakened by something strange crawling on me. What was it?!

It felt like a gigantic fly edging its way up my leg. I was in horror to discover that it was an EARWIG! I screamed at the top of my lungs, and I couldn't believe it was on me. I screamed so loud that I startled my mom, who was driving.

The earwig was heading for the hole in my pants. Now I was really in trouble. My mom handed me a cloth and told me to kill it. Of course I said "No!" If I missed, it would be twice as mad and would really bite or pinch me.

Even though I was freaking out, it turns out it was dead! To this day my worst fear is still earwigs. Now I never want to go in mom's car. I choose dad's all the way!
