JACOBSEN, Bernhard Martin, (father of William Sebastian Jacobsen), a Representative from Iowa; born in Töendren, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, March 26, 1862; attended the public schools; immigrated in 1876 to the United States with his parents, who settled in Clinton, Iowa; employed as a clerk in a dry goods store until 1886, when he engaged in the mercantile business; served as postmaster of Clinton 1914-1923; retired from the mercantile business in 1927 and engaged in the industrial finance business; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-second, Seventy-third, and Seventy-fourth Congresses and served from March 4, 1931, until his death; had been renominated for reelection to the Seventy-fifth Congress at the time of his death; died in Rochester, Minn., June 30, 1936; interment in Springdale Cemetery, Clinton, Iowa.
