TAYLOR, George, a Representative from New York; born in Wheeling, Va. (now West Virginia), October 19, 1820; completed preparatory studies; studied medicine and law; was admitted to the bar and practiced in Indiana; moved to Alabama in 1844, and to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1848, where he continued the practice of law; held several local offices; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1857-March 3, 1859); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1858 to the Thirty-sixth Congress; resumed the practice of law in Washington, D.C., until his death there January 18, 1894; interment in Rock Creek Cemetery.
