ASHLEY, Henry, a Representative from New York; born in Winchester, Cheshire County, N.H., February 19, 1778; attended the common schools; clerk of Winchester village in 1811; justice of the peace in 1817; engaged in the manufacture of leather in Catskill, Greene County, N.Y.; chairman of the tanners’ association in 1825; elected as a Jacksonian to the Nineteenth Congress (March 4, 1825-March 3, 1827); was not a candidate for reelection in 1826; resumed his former business pursuits; president of the board of trustees of the village of Catskill in 1828; trustee of the apprentices’ library in 1828; died in Catskill, N.Y., January 14, 1829; interment in Thomson Street Cemetery.
