Herman LEHLBACH, Congress, NJ (1845-1904)
LEHLBACH, Herman, (uncle of Frederick Reimold Lehlbach), a Representative from New Jersey; born in Heilig-Kreuz-Steinach, Baden, Germany, July 3, 1845; immigrated to the United States in 1851 with his parents, who settled in Newark, N.J.; attended the public schools and became a civil engineer; member of the State house of assembly 1884-1886; elected as a Republican to the Forty-ninth, Fiftieth, and Fifty-first Congresses (March 4, 1885-March 3, 1891); was not a candidate for renomination in 1890; resumed the practice of his profession as a civil engineer in Newark; sheriff of Essex County, N.J., 1893-1896; died in Newark, N.J., on January 11, 1904; interment Fairmount Cemetery.
