LIGHTFOOT, James Ross, a Representative from Iowa; born in Sioux City, Iowa, September 27, 1938; raised on a farm near Farragut, Iowa; graduated from Farragut High School, 1956; served in the United States Army and Army Reserve, 1956-1964; managed a farm equipment plant in Corsicana, Tex., 1970-1976; served on Corsicana City Commission, 1974-1976; radio broadcaster and farm editor in Shenandoah, Iowa; elected as a Republican to the Ninety-ninth and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1985-January 3, 1997); was not a candidate in 1996 for reelection to the United States House of Representatives, but was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate; unsuccessful candidate for governor in 1998.
