WEVER, John Madison, a Representative from New York; born in Ganges, Allegan County, Mich., February 24, 1847; attended the common schools and Albion (Mich.) College; during the Civil War entered the Union Army at the age of sixteen and served in the Army of the Cumberland and the Army of the Ohio; at the close of the war settled in Plattsburg, Clinton County, N.Y., and engaged in banking; elected county treasurer of Clinton County in 1884 and reelected in 1887; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-second and Fifty-third Congresses (March 4, 1891-March 3, 1895); was not a candidate for renomination in 1894 to the Fifty-fourth Congress; cashier and later president of the Merchants’ National Bank of Plattsburg, N.Y.; died in Plattsburg, N.Y., September 27, 1914; interment in Riverside Cemetery.
