John Mason PARKER, Congress, NY (1805-1873)

PARKER, John Mason, a Representative from New York; born in Granville, N.Y., June 14, 1805; attended Granville Academy and was graduated from Middlebury College, Vermont, in 1828; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Owego, N.Y., in 1833; elected as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth and reelected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1855-March 3, 1859); was not a candidate for renomination in 1858; justice of the supreme court of New York 1859-1873, and sat as a justice of the general term of the third department 1867-1873; member of the court of appeals; died in Owego, N.Y., December 16, 1873; interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
