LYMAN, Joseph Stebbins, a Representative from New York; born in Northfield, Franklin County, Mass., February 14, 1785; attended the common schools; was graduated from Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., in 1806; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Cooperstown, N.Y.; elected as a Republican to the Sixteenth Congress (March 4, 1819-March 3, 1821); was not a candidate for renomination in 1821; died in Cooperstown, Otsego County, N.Y., March 21, 1821; interment in Greenfield, Franklin County, Mass.
