Joshua LEE, Congress, NY (1783-1842)

LEE, Joshua, a Representative from New York; born in Hudson, N.Y., in 1783; studied medicine and was licensed to practice in 1804; commissioned in 1811 by Gov. Daniel D. Tompkins as surgeon of Col. Avery Smith’s regiment of Infantry and served in that capacity during the War of 1812; supervisor of the town of Benton, Yates County, in 1815; member of the State assembly in 1817 and again in 1833; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1835-March 3, 1837); resumed the practice of his profession; unsuccessful for election to the United States Senate in 1839; died in Penn Yan, N.Y., December 29, 1842; interment in Lake View Cemetery.
