TITUS, Obadiah, a Representative from New York; born in what is now Millbrook, Dutchess County, N.Y., January 20, 1789; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in the town of Washington, Dutchess County; served as captain of Infantry in the War of 1812; elected county judge; elected sheriff of Dutchess County in 1828; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1837-March 3, 1839); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1838 to the Twenty-sixth Congress; resumed the practice of law; died in the town of Washington, Dutchess County, N.Y., September 2, 1854; interment in Nine Partners (Friends) Burial Ground at Millbrook, N.Y.
