COFFIN, Peleg, Jr., a Representative from Massachusetts; born in Nantucket, Mass., November 3, 1756; completed academic studies; president of the New England Marine Insurance Co.; member of the State house of representatives in 1783, 1784, and 1789; served in the State senate in 1785, 1786, 1790-1792, 1795, 1796, and 1802; elected as a Pro-Administration candidate to the Third Congress (March 4, 1793-March 3, 1795); State treasurer 1797-1802; died in Boston, Mass., March 6, 1805; interment probably in Friends Burial Grounds; reinterment in Mount Auburn Cemetery in 1833.
