WISE, Robert Ellsworth, Jr., a Representative from West Virginia; born in Washington, D.C., January 6, 1948; B.A., Duke University, Durham, N.C., 1970; J.D., Tulane University School of Law, New Orleans, La., 1975; admitted to the West Virginia bar in 1975 and commenced practice in Charleston; member, State senate, 1980-1982; elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-eighth and to the eight succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1983-January 3, 2001); was not a candidate for reelection to the United States House of Representatives in 2000; Governor of West Virginia, 2000-2005.
