McMANUS, William, a Representative from New York; born in Brunswick, Rensselaer County, N.Y., in 1780; received an academic education; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1817 and commenced practice in Troy, Rensselaer County, N.Y.; surrogate of Rensselaer County 1815-1818; district attorney 1818-1821; elected as an Adams candidate to the Nineteenth Congress (March 4, 1825-March 3, 1827); resumed the practice of law; moved to Texas in 1833; returned to Brunswick, N.Y., the following year, where he died January 18, 1835.
