Place Of Birth:
Boston, Massachusetts
Best Known As:
The silver-haired, hot-headed ad executive on TV's Mad Men
John Slattery plays Roger Sterling, the silver-haired senior partner and horndog on the TV series Mad Men. John Slattery grew up in Boston and earned a B.F.A. degree from Catholic University in Washington, DC in 1984. Slattery started going gray in his 20s, and the lean, silver look served him well as he became a regular (if modest) presence on TV and in live theater. On Broadway he originated the role of Kenny in the Neil Simon play Laughter on the 23rd Floor (1993-94) and co-starred with Juliette Binoche in the 2001 revival of the Harold Pinter play Betrayal. Slattery's most prominent TV roles included the doomed Victor Lang in Desperate Housewives (2007) and Peter Benedict in Jack and Bobby (2004-05). His status changed with the 2007 launch of Mad Men, a huge cable TV hit with Slattery as Roger, the smoking, drinking, flirting, scheming, wisecracking, and heart-attack-prone 1960s ad executive who is a foil for creative genius Don Draper. John Slattery's films include Spy Games (1991), Traffic (2001), The Station Agent (2003), Charlie Wilson's War (2007) and Iron Man 2 (2010).
