The Supreme Court: Fighting for Freedoms

Fighting for Freedoms

Guaranteeing everyone freedom of expression frequently means granting rights to people who protest in ways or speak about issues one finds offensive. Most cases involving the protection of First Amendment freedoms that make it all the way to the Supreme Court deal with issues a majority of the population find offensive.

The recent cases I'll review in this section are no different—cross burning and child pornography. These activities offend a large segment of the population, but the freedoms granted all persons under the First Amendment protect even those who offend.
