SLADE, Charles, a Representative from Illinois; born in England, c. 1797; immigrated to the United States with his parents, who settled in Alexandria, Va.; attended the public schools; moved to Carlyle, St. Clair County, Ill.; engaged in mercantile pursuits; held several local offices; member of the State house of representatives, 1820 and 1826; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third Congress and served from March 4, 1833, until his death near Vincennes, Ind., July 11, 1834.
