Megan Thee Stallion is the rapper whose brassy personality, provocative raps and Instagram-ready exploits made her a breakout star in 2020 and beyond. She was named the best new artist of 2020 at the Grammy Awards of 2021. Megan Thee Stallion grew up in Houston, where her mother had a local rap career under the name Holly-Wood. Megan graduated from Pearland High School in 2013 and entered Prairie View A&M University, later transferring to Texas Southern University. She went by the name Megan Thee Stallion while posting freestyle raps on Instagram -- a reference to her statuesque height of 5'10". In 2018 she had gained enough fame to perform at SWSX. The same year she released the EP Tina Snow, named for her freak alter ego. Her 2019 mixtape Fever built her reputation around yet another fun-loving alter ego, Hot Girl Meg. (Her fans are called "hotties.") Her 2019 single "Hot Girl Summer" (with Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla Sign) was hot indeed, and in 2020 she teamed up (as featured vocalist )with Cardi B on the blunt-talking megahit WAP. She also released the EP Suga in 2020, with the single Savage becoming a hit in a remix with pop queen Béyonce. Megan Thee Stallion's raunchy lyrics in songs like "WAP" and "Don't Stop" celebrated sex and powerful women, and brought her both popularity and notoriety. GQ called her "an aspirationally fun, powerfully sexy artist who [raps] about the importance of being fun, powerful, and sexy" and described her music as "juicy self-help wrapped in wit and buoyed by preternaturally dazzling rap skills." In 2020, Time magazine named her to its list of the 100 most influential people in the world. In 2021, she won the Grammy Award as best new artist, and her song "Savage" won for best rap song and best rap performance.
