Dust Bowl
dust bowl
Millions of acres of farmland were destroyed and at least 2.5 million people were displaced due to the dust storms in the 1930s. Caused by both drought and farming, the Dust Bowl lasted for most of the decade. Farmers plowed deep into the ground, killing the grass that kept the soil in place. That soil became dust because of the drought and blew away. The farmland was useless, which only added to the Great Depression.
