Eugene Levy is a comedy veteran and now Canadian TV royalty, thanks to dozens of screen appearances, from the comedy hit American Pie (1999) to the Emmy-winning TV series Schitt's Creek. Levy has been doing television comedy since the 1970s, when he and several other future stars (Martin Short, John Candy, Catherine O'Hara, et al) appeared in the comedy sketch series SCTV (Second City Television). The show was first syndicated out of Toronto in 1977, then picked up as a series for American television in 1981. On the big screen, Levy is also known for his parts in the "mockumentaries" Waiting for Guffman (1996), Best in Show (2000) and A Mighty Wind (2003). In the movies and on TV, Levy has specialized in comedic portrayals of faithful (if sometimes clueless) dads, including Bringing Down the House (2003), Father of the Bride (1995, with Steve Martin). Levy has appeared in all of the American Pie movies, and as of 2020 there are nine of them. With his son, Dan Levy, Eugene Levy brought Schitt's Creek to television in 2015. By the end of its final season in 2020, it was a hit show that brought Eugene Levy his first Emmy as a lead actor.
