Closest Super Bowls of All Time
- New England Patriots defeat Carolina Panthers, 32-29, 2003 Season
- Super Bowl XXXVIII is considered by many to be one of the most competitive ever, with writer Peter King calling it the "Greatest Super Bowl of all time" in Sports Illustrated. Neither team could score until almost 27 minutes into the game (26:55), a Super Bowl record. However, both teams went on to score 25 combined points before halftime and another combined 37 points in the final quarter. The game came down to the final four seconds when Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri kicked a successful 41-yard field goal. For the second time in three years, Tom Brady (pictured above with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick) was named MVP. Brady set a Super Bowl record for most pass completions with 32 for 354 yards and three touchdowns. Almost trumping the game itself was the highly controversial "wardrobe malfunction," when Janet Jackson's breast was accidentally exposed by Justin Timberlake while they performed together during the halftime show.
